Program description: The Environmental Engineering program offered within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering leads to Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering. Environmental engineers have taken an increasingly important role in the application of engineering and scientific principles used to protect and preserve human health and the environment and to improve the quality of life.

Environmental engineers design and provide facilities for the treatment of municipal and industrial wastes. They design, construct and operate treatment systems that purify water for drinking, industrial and recreational uses. They develop and implement models that describe the transport and removal of contaminants in the environment. Solid, toxic and hazardous waste management strategies are also developed and implemented by environmental engineers. Water resources and management, environmental policy, environmental chemistry and biology, systems ecology and wetland ecology are also important aspects of the environmental engineering profession.

The program is designed to provide the students with the necessary engineering and science background to address challenges related to our expanding population and rapidly changing technological society
