Program description: The Department of Geography at the University of Nevada, Reno offers two Master of Science (M.S.) degrees, one in Geography and the other in Land Use Planning Policy. The graduate studies program emphasizes the geography of arid lands and landscapes, with a focus on intermountain environments. The program also specializes in geographic education, spatial analysis, and geographic information science. The Department houses the office of the Nevada State Climatologist, the Geographic Alliance in Nevada, a geospatial lab (the G-Lab), and two physical geography laboratories, one for Palynology, the other for Dendrochronology (DendroLab). The Department also has computer laboratories for cartography and Geographic Information Systems/Science. Exceptional facilities for the analysis of remotely sensed data are available to geography students through a program at the Mackay School.
