The Office of Undergraduate and Interdisciplinary Research works to foster an environment of discovery and scholarship for all undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty. Interdisciplinary graduate programs and research provide unique opportunities for students and faculty to address complex research issues of critical importance.

The office also houses the Academy for the Environment which serves as a hub of interdisciplinary research for undergraduates, graduate students and faculty, with a focus on the environment and issues of sustainability. Through the University’s Sustainability Committee, the Academy for the Environment also promotes sustainable practices on campus in the areas of Energy, Transportation, Campus Life and the Curriculum.

The Academy for the Environment serves as a hub of interdisciplinary research for undergraduates, graduate students and faculty, with a focus on the environment and issues of sustainability.

Universities can be models of behavior for a society struggling with significant issues.  Enhancing and sustaining Nevada’s environmental quality is one of the goals identified in goal six of the University's strategic plan.

Our mission is four-fold: to help students learn the skills needed to conduct research; to facilitate student participation in the search for new knowledge; to motivate talented students and recruit them to graduate school; and create a sense of community among student scholars and their mentors.

Our mission is to promote, support and publicize the research conducted by graduate students participating in the University’s interdisciplinary graduate programs.
