Tahoe: Research, Scholarship and Outreach
By our very proximity, the University of Nevada, Reno is in a unique position to study, research, and appreciate the many facets of Lake Tahoe. Tahoe: Research, Scholarship and Outreach is a Web site providing information about the wide variety of scholarly and creative activity currently being conducted by our University faculty in the area of Lake Tahoe. Additionally, the site provides an interdisciplinary array of environmental information about the Tahoe area, including historic maps, photographs, full-text documents, streaming video, and an extensive bibliography of publications.
The University Libraries' KnowledgeWorks developed the web site with support from Teaching and Learning Technologies, the Lake Tahoe Environmental Education Coalition (LTEEC), the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, the Biological Resources Research Center (BRRC), and the University of Nevada Academy for the Environment.
LTEEC provided substantial content, in particular the greater part of the streaming videos. Cooperative Extension also contributed significantly to the site's content. Likewise, the Libraries’ Special Collections Department provided a variety of scanned historical materials. The University’s Biological Resources Research Center contributed Tahoe related citations from its bibliographic database of Nevada biological and environmental resources. The Academy for the Environment provided the impetus for this Web site by bringing together scholars and staff on campus interested in furthering Tahoe oriented research and outreach.
